A great garden doesn’t happen by accident. It’s designed with intention, planted with purpose, and built to grow more beautiful with every passing season.

Before & After: Why we do what we do
OUR SERVICES
What we can do for you
Garden Design
This is our mainstay and why we got into this business in the first place. Scroll down a little further to learn about our process to work with you to help you achieve what you want for your outdoor space.
We love meeting new people in our hometown of Louisville, KY, but we are more than happy to work with anyone in the U.S. Part of our process is to do extensive research so we are always up for a new challenge.
Consultations
Improving the outdoor space at your home is more than just talking about plants and what should be growing outside your window.
We are happy to help you find the right team to install hardscapes, lighting, artificial turf, pools, sport courts, playgrounds, and even putting greens.
Contact us to set up a consultation.
Personalized Plans & Inventory
We offer our clients a personalized maintenance plan upon the completion of our design partnership.
Not sure you’re committed to a new landscape plan? We are still happy to come to your place and take an inventory of what your plant life looks like. We’d be more than happy to create a personalized plan for your already great looking space.
Our Process
-
Consultation & Proposal
Before we begin, we hope you’ll click the Questionnaire below.
After you fill that out, we’ll set up time to meet in person in your garden.
We can assess the needs you have for you and your family. For instance, we can help you create a safe and fun environment for your children and animals. We can also design a space based on your homes drainage, soil, light, and location.
In this meeting, we will also discuss your likes and dislikes and your overall needs and hopes for your outdoor space.
-
The Design
After our in person meeting, we will begin an initial proposal based on what we discussed.
In this proposal, you will see a scope of work, the beginnings of a mood board and an approximate timeline of the project, soup to nuts.
We’ll also start to do some research based on your location and the plants you seem to really dig.
We’ll share the design with you and discuss what you like and maybe don’t like as much.
We will do our best to show you the great possibilities to make your space feel even more like you.
-
Installation
We are not the ones with the shovels and bobcats, but we know some guys who can help.
If you don’t plan on doing the work yourself, we are happy to introduce you to some of the best people in the business to help bring our design to life.
McCauley Adams
I've always believed that the spaces we inhabit — indoors or out — shape the way we live, connect, and feel.
That belief began here in Louisville, where I grew up gardening alongside my mother and learning to fly fish with my dad in the creeks and streams of Kentucky. Both taught me the same thing, really: that paying close attention to the natural world is its own kind of reward. And that the best things — a garden, a stretch of river, a life well lived — grow more beautiful with time.
Before founding Ramble on Rose, I spent over a decade in the wine and spirits industry, building brands and learning that place matters, that the sensory experience of an environment is everything, and that the best things are made with intention and care. That lens — a brand-builder's eye trained to see how space shapes experience — is inseparable from the way I approach garden design.
In 2021, I founded Ramble on Rose as a way to bring that philosophy to the landscapes homeowners live with every day. I partner with clients to transform their outdoor spaces into refined, livable extensions of their homes — blending intentional design, curated plant palettes, and a collaborative, client-centered process that guides you from first conversation through installation and beyond.
Environmental stewardship isn't a marketing point — it's woven into everything I do. I'm a founding member of the White Oak Initiative, served for six years as a Director on the Dendrifund board, served on the Advisory Committee for Louisville's Urban Forestry Master Plan, and work pro bono with Trees Louisville. I'm also a proud member of the Association of Professional Landscape Designers (APLD). Good design and care for the natural world aren't in conflict. They're the same thing.
My work has been featured in Homes & Gardens, and I'm so deeply grateful to work in my hometown, doing something I love, every single day.
Whether you're dreaming of a full-property transformation or simply a quiet corner that finally feels like yours — I'd love to hear about your space.
Let's make something beautiful together.
Client Feedback
“Working with McCauley on our landscaping was a true delight. She asked great, insightful questions on how we wanted to use the space and was attentive to our phase of life and how that might affect our attention to our garden (or lack there of!). She made sure that our personal taste in flowers and plants was reflected in all of her design. We couldn’t be happier that we chose Ramble on Rose to help us design our backyard oasis. Thank you, McCauley!”
- Katie H., Louisville, KY
“McCauley is extremely talented and has an eye for design. She took our brick terrace and developed a landscape plan that brought color and creativity to our outdoor space. She helped with recommendations on new outdoor dining furniture, as well, which was unexpected! Her landscape programs (computer drawings) allowed us to see the end result, which was quite helpful. We highly recommend Ramble on Rose for any landscape design.”
-Caroline E., Prospect, KY
Ramble on Rose was a breath of fresh air for our (very) tired yard! As a mom to two young girls, I was looking for a design that was both aesthetically pleasing and allowed for family fun. McCauley patiently listened to my daughter’s “vision”, even naming the design project after her! We felt ownership in the project and McCauley’s guidance made the execution seamless and successful. The result was better than I imagined—we are enjoying spring blooms for the first time this year and my girls have had so much fun creating cut flower arrangements that they helped to grow!
Audra R., Louisville, KY
“McCauley transformed our sad backyard into a charming oasis of year round beauty that we enjoy everyday in every season. She was with us every step, from the design and hardscape to the selection and placement of trees, shrubs and flowers, mindful of our desire for mostly native plants that deter rabbits and attract pollinators. The bees, butterflies, gold finch and hummingbirds are grateful and so are we. Friendly, knowledgeable, and creative, she is a delight to work with and we highly recommend her.”
- Kay & Hunt, Louisville, KY
“McCauley transformed our sloped, chaotic backyard into a magical, fully functional outdoor space. What sets her apart is her rare combination of vision and listening. She uncovered what we truly wanted, often before we could fully articulate it ourselves. The result is a stunning, functional outdoor space that has completely changed how we use our home. We now spend as much time outside as possible which is something we never imagined before working with her. If you have the chance to work with her, take it. You’ll never look at your outdoor space the same way again.”
-Suzanne O., Louisville, KY
“McCauley listened. She embraced our vision and offered thoughtful recommendations to enhance our existing gardens. She introduced us to fresh, new ideas for the future. We appreciated her elegant restraint and respect for the space.”
-Jon R., Louisville, KY
“If you’re looking for a landscape designer, look no further than Ramble on Rose! McCauley was a total dream to work with. From the jump, she was so quick to get back to us, which made the whole process feel easy and stress-free. She had such a clear understanding of what we were looking for right away. What I appreciated most, though, was how flexible she was - anytime we had a concern or wanted to tweak thing, she pivoted without a second thought and really made sure we were happy. She ended up designing a space that truly matches our aesthetic and feels exactly like “us.” We couldn’t be happier with how it turned out. If you want someone who actually listens and has a killer eye for design, McCauley is your person.”
