Everett Ave
The Highlands is a neighborhood in Louisville, not far from downtown. This part of the Highlands, the Cherokee Triangle, is made up of older homes of varying style, but usually with small backyards. The house is no different as the yard is quite small. While this yard boasts a magnificent Silver Maple that provides a great deal of shade, it is nearly impossible to grow grass. The homeowners realized that with a dog and two young children, they needed something to simplify their life. Laying the turf was the first step and building the screened in porch was the next. After they designed the turf and porch layout, they were able to determine what plant life would do well under these circumstances.

After: the beds and pots around the back porch finish the space out nicely
